Star Topiaries: 4th of July Edition

I have been waiting very patiently to show these to you!  I had this idea months ago and have been working on them, but I didn't want to show them too far in advance of the 4th of July, or "America Day" as my daughter so aptly calls it!

But here they are...my 4th of July Star Topiaries!!  (or should I call them "America Day Topiaries! hahaha!)

These are so super simple to make.  But they do take a little bit of time.  But it was well worth the time it took because I think they are so cute!

First, you will need three styrofoam balls.  I used 5" balls.
I decided to paint them in case you saw a bit of the styrofoam peaking out from underneath the stars.  This is not necessary...but I'm not going to lie, I am a little obsessive like that sometimes!

I didn't have red or blue spray paint, but I did have craft paint.  So I actually just used craft paint and a good 'ole foam brush and painted my styrofoam balls, one blue and one red.  The other I left white.

Second, using a star paper punch, I punched out a lot of stars.  I think I used 3-4 sheets of 12"x12" scrapbook paper per topiary.  I actually found fun paper that was double sided, one side was a bit shimmery and the other was a matte finish.  So I decided to use both sides for my topiaries.

Third, I placed two stars together and put a pearl-top pin through them and started pinning them into the Styrofoam, overlapping the stars as I went.

Fourth, after all of the stars were pinned into place, I took a wooden dowel and stuck it in the bottom of my topiary.  I used a bit of hot glue to secure the dowel in place.

Fifth, I secured additional styrofoam into the bottom of three metal pails with lots of hot glue.  And then I inserted the other end of the wooden dowel into the foam in the pail and secured that with hot glue also.

Lastly, I hid the Styrofoam in the pail with a bit of crinkled paper.

Aren't these just too cute??  I love my 4th of July America Star Topiaries!

Have you started decorating for the 4th of July yet?

Those are really neat. I don't think I would have the patience to punch all those stars though, LOL! I love how the pearl pins against the papers. Visiting from Inspire Me Monday.
